Commissions

Hello and welcome!

Here are a few guidelines to give you an idea of what I do and how I paint your pets.

I paint in acrylics on stretched canvas. The canvases are unframed and I paint around the sides for a finished look. Please check out the photos on my page for an idea of my style of painting before we begin to discuss a commission.

Guidelines for commissions

I use a photo of your pet to create my paintings. I require a clear photo that indicates the composition you’d like for your painting. Sometimes it’s helpful to have more than one photo (for example, one photo shows a good composition for a painting and another photo might give me a better idea of the colors of your pet). If you have several photos that you like and you can’t choose, I can help you narrow down the choices into what will make a good painting. Emailed photos are best, but if you only have a hard copy I can work with that and return it to you.

My waiting list is currently about 12 months.  I will email you with confirmation once you decide to book a painting and then I will contact you closer to the time I start your painting to get details.  We will discuss general guidelines that you may have for the painting and then I’ll get started. I can send you snapshots along the way of the development or you can wait until the end and be surprised. Once I reach the final stage I will get your approval. I can do minor adjustments at this stage, but it will be mainly finished. Once I receive payment from you I will ship your painting.

Base Prices

6×6  $120

8×8  $175

8×10  $200

10×10  $275

9×12 $300

12×12  $350

11×14 $375

12×16 $425

14×18 $500

16×16  $540

16×20 $600

18×18  $650

Note: These prices are effective 2/12/14.  If you booked with me prior to this you will receive the old prices.  This price list is just to give you an idea. I can do bigger sizes and other shapes, including the atypical tall, horizontal, or square shapes. Let’s discuss the best composition! In general, each additional pet in the painting is 50% more. Same goes for very detailed backgrounds. Payments can be made by check or PayPal. Shipping is not included in the price of the painting.

  1. Hello Clara, I have been looking at your site and have been thinking about giving each of my girls a painting of their dog for Christmas or other holidays–guessing that you are probably pretty busy with Christmas gifts already. Do you do any smaller sizes than a 9 X 12—not sure I could afford over $400, but will start to save for this as I’m sure your paintings will be sooo special to the girls. And, I’m not sure I have more than one photo of their previous dogs. One of my daughters has her own dog now–it is a Stafforshire bull terrior–pit bull—I may have you do that one instead of her previous dog! He is soooo precious and every time I look at him I think of Wallace, although their colorings are different. OK that’s it for now. Thank you. Linda Zager

    • Hi Linda,
Through September I’m running a special on the 8×8 size. $100 each (plus shipping). You can message me through the contact tab or email straight to ktothenines@gmail.com
We can go through whatever photos you have and pick what will work best. Thanks for your interest! Let me know if you have any questions.

  2. Hi LInda! Would you be able to do a portrait in time for Christmas? Our dog just passed away in August, and I thought it would be sweet and a meaningful treasure to give to my mom to remember Shelly by. How soon is the soonest turn around right now on paintings? Glad to hear that ya’ll are busy!!! much love, Ellen

    • Hi Ellen,
I thought I replied to you already. Maybe I sent you an email. I would love to paint Shelly if you’re still interested. My waiting list is out until about May. Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks!
      Clara

      • Hi Clara—I’m not , I’m Linda—seems like my name got confused with yours from Ellen, as she addressed it to Linda.

  3. No problem—-just wanted to to get communicated to the right person. I know, I am not very technologically oriented! Linda Zager 🙂

  4. Hi Clara! I was wondering if you will be doing any commission specials like you did back in Sept 2013? I was thinking of maybe commissioning a picture of one of our PAWS New England dogs to raffle for charity. Thanks!!

    • Hi Gina,
I’m sorry, but I am super swamped and my waiting list is nearly a year long. I don’t have any specials going at the moment. I would love to paint one of the PAWS dogs if you decide to move forward. That would be a very thoughtful donation. Please let me know asap so I can add you to the list. And send any confirmation or questions to my email so I’m more likely to see it there! Thanks so much.

    • Hi Nikki,
Sorry I didn’t notice your comment right away. I can’t remember when we chatted last, but I did already have your name on the waiting list. Would you mind emailing me your photos? All I had written was that you may want two dogs together or possibly just one dog. Let’s chat via email so I don’t lose our conversation! Thanks so much.

  5. Hi. I am interested in getting portraits of our cats done. Please let me know if you would consider doing it. Thank you.

  6. Hi I got this email, but I am not Sheila. I am Linda Zager. And earlier I was looking for two paintings of two dogs each for each of my daughters—dogs that belonged to them. And if you are able to do these, that would be great. As I said my name is Linda Zager — email zager.linda@gmail.com

  7. Clara
I would love to commission you to do a portrait of our sweet Bubba boy. I know you have quite the waiting list but would like to be added to it. Could you tell me what I need to do?
    Thanks, Alison

  8. Hi Clara
I am looking to get a beautiful painting of our dear friends three dogs as a gift for this Christmas. They have three amazing westies that we wanted to get into one painting. I know it will take months yet just wanted to get your sense on timing for a larger painting …what is the largest you do?

    Thank you so much!
    Take care
    Julie

    • Hi Julie, I’m so sorry for ignoring you. I wasn’t painting for a few years and I was struggling. I don’t have a good excuse for not responding, but I am trying to catch up now. It has been years so you probably aren’t interested in a commission anymore, but if you are I am available. Maybe you found a wonderful artist to paint your friend’s westies. Sorry for the extreme delay. I hope all is well.
      Clara
